Lightweight QRP VHF/UHF Antenna Switch?
« on: February 18, 2022, 02:53:31 PM »

I’d like to run an ICOM IC-R30 scanning receiver on 2m/70cm simplex and repeaters to find RX, then switch my antenna to a RFinder B1+ HT to TX/RX. Are there any lightweight, portable antenna switches commercially available or DIY kits/PCBs to consider?

Some of the mobile antenna makers had smaller lighter switches in the past. Maybe start there with like Comet and some of the others. Yea you don't need a big old B+W switch for that!

I'd just use BNC plugs.  They are quick to move from one radio
to another, just a quarter turn or so to take off or put on.

I did find this switch - just a bit pricey.

for VHF use a common 1A small toggle switch (SPDT) in a tiny pomona box
with suitable connectors works for me to the 50W level.  For UHF I've used
that but more care with internall leads (used wide copper strips).

However the solution I like better was a Diplexer.  One port is the signal from
the radio and the other two are the VHF and UHF ports.  it can be used in
reverse to take a dual band antenna two separate UHF and VHF radios.
I used that with a dual band antenna and two radios for V/U FM sats.
