W2LPC bad experience!
« on: February 19, 2022, 10:55:50 AM »

W2LPC advertised Icom 756 here and on Mercari.

My first contact with her was via Mercari. I asked her about the display on 756 and her response was: "Read the description!" I sent her my apology: "Sorry, my bad. I read it yesterday and today only skimmed through it. My mistake.". That was all the contact I had with her via Mercari. I first though she had a bad day.

After that I found the same 756, the exactly the same picture here: https://www.eham.net/classifieds/591326
She responded quickly and her responses where again brief, not quite friendly.

When I got the transceiver it was dirty with layers of grim on knobs. Well, I can deal with it. However there was a bigger issue.

The 756's case was damaged with the BNC connector on the back busted. The radio did not sit flat on the desk. The white plastic connector is no longer secured in place. One of the hooks is broken so nothing can be attached to it as it would push the connector inside and push against internal components. After turning the 756 on and off few times the power button got physically stuck. The RX seemed to work fine but I was not interested in TX testing.

I asked her via email why this damage was not disclosed. There was no damage to the shipping box. I asked about a return shipping label but she would ignore it.

I opened a case with Paypal but she would not respond. I had no option but to escalate it to Paypaly to which she reacted with sending me a shipping slip but not a label. I packaged the radio into the original box, documented it with pictures and is sitting here waiting for a label.

This is the escalation message I sent to Paypal:

"I reached out to the seller by email and by using the paypal chat. The seller ignored my repeated request for a returned shipping label. This item is about 25lb packaged so it is not cheap to ship. The seller knowingly shipped the items in damaged condition needing repairs. I should not have any financial loss, should not pay for the shipping back given the seller knowingly tried to defraud me. This was not done by a mistake, the seller's profile online indicate that she is an expert in the field of radio communication."

W2LPC shows as Louis P Corradi in South Plainfield, NJ on QRZ. Doesn't look like a woman's name. Perhaps you were scammed by somebody using Louis's callsign?

This is the profile of the seller right here on eham: https://www.eham.net/user/view-userprofile?id=W2LPC

This is the linkedin profile from eham's profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lou-corradi-702a081b0

The packaged came from LPC Systems matching linkedin.

The FCC record for W2LPC: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=788085

The address listed on the FCC record has a different street number and street name compared to where the seller wants to ship it on my expense (assuming that is what it meant when I got the address and nothing else via email).

The seller goes by Lou Corrad which is a different name to the one on the FCC record. This is weird.

Be thankful you didn't F&F. That's the biggest flag there is.

Hopefully PayPal will make it right. If you have a credit card on file with PayPal, notify them as well.

Yes, you are absolutely right, I am thankful!

I think I want to wait a week and if Paypay does not help then I will dispute the charge on my CC. I want to give Paypal some time to get it right. Thanks for your help!

Actually, this is some of the research I would do before making any type of deal. Definitally some red flags that should have been questioned. Also, if they can't provide pictures with unique identifiers in them, I consider them to be downloaded pictures and not the real item.

Absolutely!

There might be some relationship between Lou Corradi and Louis Corradi. It can be the same person or a spouse. Maybe there is a reason for a name change and for moving within the town after Jan 2018 (fcc registration).

Further research:

The house of Louis Corradi was sold on 07/19/21.
The house of Lou Corradi sold on 03/17/1999.

These two houses are only 1 mile apart.
