Pennkit TR-35
« on: February 21, 2022, 11:51:30 AM »

I've spent an enjoyable week playing with this new kit from WA3RNC. It's little brother, the TR-25 was favorably reviewed in a recent issue of QST.

Calling it a semi-kit would be more accurate since the SMD's are pre-installed. Takes about 4 hours to complete the build and results in a great little radio for CW QRP.

John makes a very nice quality product.  I have one of his older QRP transmitters fun to build and operate.

For those who may not have heard, the latest version of firmware for the TR-35 now provides two memories for the built-in keyer. It works quite well.

Yesterday a friend of mine showed me his TR-25 and I thought it was neat. I came home and read about the TR-35 and up coming TR-45. For me, I am waiting with baited breath for the 45 since it has an internal battery as well as a speaker. It is a thicker radio than the 25 and the 35, but I'm fine with that.

Hey, if you're going to use expressions from Shakespeare, better do it right, lots of people will know if it's wrong !

:-)

It's easier if you think what the phrase means: "bated" is just a poetic shortening of abated so "bated breath" describes what can happen when someone is so excited in anticipation of something that they forgot to breath.

All forums are over flowing with nit pickers and hair splitters. Have you not noticed this before?

Of course.  Amateur Radio is kind of a technical hobby, a lot of people kind of expect semi-literate communications from participants.

Bated breath is probably preferable to bait breath!  <silly grin>

For those interested, the TR-35 is reviewed in the December QST.

Price might be a problem at $279 for the TR-35 in kit form. Amazon is selling (tr)SRX kits for $88. The mcHF is available in kit form for about $318 from Aliexpress. Shipping is included for either one.
