100w top-band sets off my Interlogix NX4 alarm
« on: February 27, 2022, 07:15:33 AM »

I rent a house which has a General Electrics (Interlogix) home alarm system.  I don't actually use the system, but it is switched on all the time, albeit not 'armed'.

I have erected a vertical antenna for 160 meter band on my flat roof, with a quarter wave element supported by an 18m Spiderbeam pole and radials on the flat roof. The SWR is about 1:1.3 without use of an ATU.

Unfortunately, when I transmit, the very loud audible alarm of the NX4 goes off, even though the alarm system is not armed.  I am operating an Icom 7300 barefoot, with 100 watts output.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with the NX4 (which is a popular home alarm system in the USA)?  Is it possible to totally deactivate the alarm without cutting the AC power or back-up battery)?  Thanks.

I have zero knowledge of your specific alarm system, BUT I did solve an RFI problem with an alarm system in my own house that was a wired system. I put .01 microfarad disk ceramic caps across all of the alarms inputs and outputs. You can also try putting mix 31 snap on chokes on the wires also if you have some slack in them to wrap a few wraps thru them.

Excellent advice!  But I took the lazy option and disconnected the battery and AC power to the alarm..... My house has bars on all windows anyway and there is nothing worth stealing. I also added a 9:1 UNUN to my 160 metre vertical antenna and that reduced the SWR to about 1:1.15.  I'm happy :)

Be careful, the bad guys may be lurking.  You said you have nothing worth stealing but earlier you mentioned the 7300 !  That would bring at least $50 bucks at the local fence......
