Toledo Ohio hamfest canceled
« on: March 01, 2022, 10:53:32 AM »

According to the ARRL hamfest list, and the TMRA (Toledo Mobile Radio Association) website, the Toledo Hamfest scheduled to be held on March 20, 2022, has been canceled. Another large, popular fest lost for the year.

Well, that's a bummer. Toledo is one of those hamfests I enjoy attending.
Why did they cancel it?
I'd guess it's because their facility is at the Owens Community College,
and the college won't allow the use of the building.
But that's only a guess.

Hopefully it'll be back next year.

At this point, I can't imagine it is Covid related.

The TMRA website says that the reason is strictly Covid related.

The TMRA website says that the reason is strictly Covid related.

At this point we all have "covid fatigue" from this droning message of doom.
If they are so afraid of living life, they might as well just fold the club and be done with it.

My club has similar minded "leadership" in mortal fear of the virus which supposedly prevents them from doing ANYTHING.
Personally, I think it is an excuse for the lazy and apathetic to do nothing.

The TMRA website says that the reason is strictly Covid related.

Omicron being the dominant, if not only, virus currently an issue I can't see the reason for cancellation.

Mask mandates have been lifted for the majority of venues, ball games are going forward, theaters are open for business.

I certainly don't mean to promote throwing caution to the wind, but I believe cancelling "life" at this point is somewhat overboard.

Incompetent people addicted to MSM fear mongering... I was watching a news broadcast about 58 years ago, it made my stomach churn so I shut it off. Haven't missed a thing ever since...

Is it club officials that are afraid? Or is it the local politicians still playing god? I thought masks, vaccines, and washing hands was the cure. If not, why are we still doing it? The only science here is political science. And even that is on shacky ground.

We had to cancel last year thanks to local politicians. This year we are back after missing 2 years. Finally, life begins again.

If and when the rate of new infections in SC falls below 5% for three consecutive weeks, then, and only then, will I venture out to hamfests, club meetings, etc.  It is not a Government plot - it is basic science.

That is your prerogative to operate that way. You don't have too go to the meetings if you don't think it's safe.
However, Not everyone is so paranoid. They would prefer to make a careful effort to live life.

Washing hands, wearing a mask and keeping a reasonable distance should be enough. That's science also. Worked for me so far...

Do the annual traffic fatalities statistics keep you from driving, too?

My problem is the lunatic fringe who refuse to do the above.  My ONLY way to protect against them is to isolate.

Did it all and still got Covid here. So did my wife. And many people I know also suffered the same results. So now I no longer believe the politically motivated statistics.

Count me in the freedom group to do what is right for me, and I won't infringe on your right to do what you think is right. So save the lectures in either direction.

The thing that you are missing is that your rights STOP where mine START!  Your refusal to take proper precautions takes away my rights.  If proper precautions require wearing a mask then, you must do that to not negate my rights.  That is the price for living in a civilized society governed by rules.
