Remote operation of IC 7600 with Icom's Bal software
« on: March 09, 2022, 09:03:11 PM »

OK, I purchased the icom Bal v2 software from Icom with hope of remoting my 7600 (in the basement) from my easy chair upstairs.  Since the 7600 lacks an ethernet connection, (but does have a B-USB control port in back) it appears from the software instruction that I have to actually run a computer between the radio and my LAN in order to operate remotely through the LAN.  My question is this.  Why can't I connect the radio to a usb wifi addaptor that is programed to operate over my LAN and connect my laptop to the radio through that (just like I had it plugged directly into the radio) rather than having to have an extra computer running as the interface?  Will this work?  What am I missing here?  Thanks.  73's

The 7600 is an older radio and it does not have the server built into the radio like the 7610 does. So with the 7600 and 7300 for that matter you will need a server at the rig. This should not be a big hardship as you can go buy good serviceable PC's for under $200 at New Egg and other refurbishes. I bought a pretty decent I5 processor IBM for $90. It has been a few years, but you should still be able to find some bargains if you look around.
