Russia, Belarus, and Donbas stations nixed from CQ contests
« on: March 17, 2022, 03:52:07 PM »

From the ARRL weekly newsletter:
Quote
In a March 17 news release, CQ Communications, Inc. announced, "It will not accept competitive entries in any of its sponsored contests by amateur radio stations in Russia, Belarus, or the separatist Donbas region of Ukraine (unofficial D1 prefix). Logs submitted by these stations will be accepted only as check logs. In addition, contacts with these stations by other participants will have zero point value and will not count as multipliers." The policy will take effect with the CQ WPX SSB Contest on March 26 and 27, 2022, and future events will be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the situation at that time.

So much for ham radio staying totally out of the fray.  I had believed there a legacy of hams fostering relationships between ALL countries whenever and wherever they can.

The amateur radio system was shut down entirely during World War 2. Almost every nation rescinded, suspended or cancelled laws and regulations permitting amateur radio, and informed their operator amateurs that they were forbidden to transmit radio signals over the air. Many nations required that radios or significant components be handed over to the government.   My point being this is really not anything new.   When all else fails so will amateur radio.

This is total BS.  Glad CQ isn't bringing politics into their contests.  I am sure that there are other conflicts going on also-how come their counties haven't been banned by CQ as well?

It's one thing when governments shut down the Amateur service, it's another thing entirely when hams step in the way of their own operations.  It's, frankly,  counter to the spirit of worldwide amateur operations and the overall general neutrality of the service.

DXCC may soon be removing countries from an "eligible" list at this rate, and eventually the world would split into radio islands...if ham radio is to happen at all by then.

Like it or not seems to me CQ Communications, Inc. is free to run their business as they please the same as sites like Eham.net, QRZ.com, and others can impose the restrictions that suit the site owners.

Of course this is true!  However, I am free to criticize CQ's actions, explain why I am against them, and point out reasons why such actions can be detrimental or contrary to amateur radio.  CQ has no right to be immune from respectful opinions that are opposed to its actions, and I have every right to call CQ out as wrong!

You sure do and to this point in the thread, I see no one indicating you can't express your opinion.

This isn't a government banning them. It's an organazation that is supposed to promote good will amoung all amateur radio operators. Big difference.

Is this the same CQ Communications that can't get a magazine out ? But they can make idiotic political statements ? This same thing backfired on QRZ.

What was the point of your original post, then?  To state the obvious, as I seemed to need to?

you haven't heard some of the idiot political statements going on right now on 15 meter ssb,

Serge, UA0DX, is on now just trying to play radio and working people but there is one annoying english/american speaking ham who won't ID but this guy is telling him to F-Off on the air.

If you are going to say this to another ham then at least have the guts to ID, this guy refused to ID constantly telling Serge to F off the entire time.

It's just a dumb hobby radio and not stupid politics and I seriously doubt that Serge has any control over what Pukin does so what good does it do to cuss out one ham?

I will keep participating in the contests sponsored by CQ/WPX and I will try to work as many Russians, Ukrainians, Germans, Chinese, Mongolians, Martians etc, etc... as I can. However, I will not submit my logs as a sign of protest for this idiocy. The cancel culture is trying to divide and take over HAM Radio and we should not allow it to happen.
