Is this the same CQ Communications that can't get a magazine out ? But they can make idiotic political statements ? This same thing backfired on QRZ.

Exactly.

Still waiting for my 2022 calendar.

CQ's action is actually a good thing.  It will "out" them finally for stealing people's money (print subscribers not seeing mags for the past 6 months), not paying their bills (just ask anyone), having not actually run the  "CQ Sponsored" contest for the past 15 years (look up WWROF).  I am sure this action will evoke the "enough is enough" reaction that is due and CQ will ultimately be no longer sponsoring CQ contests.

Hopefully this kills off CQ for once and for all, which has been due for the past decade in my opinion.

It should be my own decision whether or not to log Russians.   Regardless of whether I do or don't, it rubs me the wrong way to have some contest manager or magazine publisher make that decision for me.

And as usually the case with everything CQ does: they're already several weeks late to the Cancel Russia game

If the FCC issued an Order banning contact with Russias, that would be different. But they haven't done that.

CQ has never said Russian amateurs can’t be logged by other hams. Here is a quote from their press release.

“ CQ Communications, Inc., publishers of CQ Amateur Radio magazine and sponsor of the CQ World Wide DX and WPX Contests, announced today that in light of the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and Belarus, it will not accept competitive entries in any of its sponsored contests by amateur radio stations in Russia, Belarus or the separatist Donbas region of Ukraine (unofficial D1 prefix). Logs submitted by these stations will be accepted only as checklogs. In addition, contacts with these stations by other participants will have zero point value and will not count as multipliers.”

You are arguing semantics. Poorly.

When CQ magazine did away with the unassisted category in the WPX contests last year, didn't another organization run an alternative WPX contest that allowed unassisted entries?  Maybe such an organization can do something that like that this year-run an alternative WPX contest those 2 weekends that allow Russian, Belarus, and Donbas stations to participate as well.

Even better, maybe the alternative contest can ban participation by CQ executives-make them worth 0 points and no multiplier credit.

So if North Korea ever comes on the air you guys boycotting Russian stations aren't going to work them because it just wouldn't be the right thing to do? What has happened there is as bad or worse than Russia. I bet all of you will be calling.... If you do you're hypocrites.

Without giving my personal opinion of whether you should or shouldn’t work Russian stations (your own choice), I don’t understand your comparison to North Korea.

My understanding, correct me if I’m wrong, is that North Korea hasn’t lately committed war crimes by invading, unprovoked, a neighboring sovereign democratic country, targeting and killing innocent civilians and totally destroying the infrastructure of whole cities. While still ruled by an unscrupulous dictator *within their boundries*, how is NK “just as bad or worse”?

Right. Because perpetrating atrocities on your fellow man only counts if you do it on the other side of the imaginary line. You're really some sort of twisted, ain't ya?

Oh geez....not YOU again! All I did was question his comparison between the Russian aggression and North Korea, not criticizing him.

As secretive as they are, no one really knows the extent of what's going on in North Korea, and they're not in an unprovoked hot war with anyone. Not the greatest place to live, but one thing they're not doing is raining missiles down on their own infrastructure and wholesale indiscriminate killing of their citizens for no reason. Talk to me when/if they invade and bomb South Korea. YA gotta come up with a better argument, don't YA. YA can work or not work any ham in any place YA want...no skin off my nose.

YA can have any opinion YA want, and I do understand the point YA are trying to convey. Some validity to it.  But calling me "twisted" because I have a different opinion than YA just shows what kind of person YA are ;).

Please let's not argue the nuances of extent or type of conflict that would lead a ham to boycott certain contacts.  This just creates noise for other readers and eventual locking of the thread.

This thread deserves discussion of whether it is appropriate to exclude contacts from a contest (or other organized ham activity) for political reasons.

Yeah yeah yeah, blah blah blah, I didn't bother reading your drivel as you've already demonstrated a foundational misunderstanding of how to behave rationally in multiple other threads.

Keep it up with your racism and ding ding comments, you are making a great case!

I agree...the discussion has already devolved into insulting comments, and no one is going to change anyone else's mind anyway. It serves no purpose to continue.

The bottom line is it's CQ's ball, and they're telling you that contacts with Russian amateurs will be a waste of time in next week's WPX SSB contest, as they won't be counted in your final score. Everyone can do what they want and let the cards fall where they may. Political and/or moral reasons, it is what it is.

IMO, it's a good time to lock this thread, and I see that N6MST has gotten his final childish licks in on me, and I wouldn't want him to raise his blood pressure and blow a gasket if he wouldn't have a chance to do so ;).

73, and good luck in the contest if you decide to participate....

I guess the adults decided not to close the thread. (so far)  We don't need another site that practices viewpoint discrimination.
