BEWARE !!! I would never use them again. In business the 'bottom line' ?? They want you to cost them money ?? (a good business calculates cost of problem and adjusts not by voiding people out as such)

With no prior disputes and lost a good sum of money. A dispute ? They locked my account for months. All they said is I have to confirm who I was. I did such with ID's and whatever required in short order. Oddly all links to dispute ability vanished from the websites I could access. Signed in as ME and any ability vanishes. Account returned to normal in several months. Ebay disputes ? !!

The rip-off crook just vanished in short order as they often do.

I never understood why ANY third-party payment handler such as PayPal, Venmo, etc. should be involved in any way with disputes between buyer and seller. This crap was never a thing until online payment methods became available.

The payment handler should have no authority whatsoever to decide who is right and who is wrong. That should be ONLY between buyer & seller, just like old times. People have traded for hundreds of thousands of years before all of this with the understanding that both parties were assuming an amount of risk. If somebody got burned, they would pursue it using conventional means - duke it out, call the sheriff, go to civil court, file mail fraud charges, etc.

PayPal and other payment processors who treat the trading parties like children should be stripped of their ability to do so.....

Just recently I received a couple of texts on my cell phone from PayPal providing me with a ID code for logging in. The interesting part is, I don't have a PayPal account. How does sending me a text with an ID code do anything for a hacker?

Had you answered or followed the link or whatever they ask you to do to use it, the request for personal information would have followed. A bait used to steal information so they can hack you, or get into your credit with fake accounts and steal your money.

In recent years, PayPal has changed A LOT. Protection is all for the buyer, virtually no protection for the seller (read the long detailed, revised agreement). Then there are the fees!!
PayPal is dead to me anymore. My account is deleted.

Maybe I didn't express myself correctly. No, the text message did not contain a link. I don't click on links in texts or emails. It was just a 6 digit code that is often used to verify your login ID. I often get these kind of codes from other sites, when I try to log in. They are pretty common and part of their two level identification. But, since I don't have an account with PayPal, there wasn't anything for me to do but ignore it and throw it away. I did put a block on the sender, so I won't see them again.

I just don't understand the motive for sending a code. Even if I did have an account and tried to log in, the code would be useless to me and they would have sent me a different code. I'm guessing that someone might have just hosed up their phone number in their account. Now they are out of luck.

Yep. Thats the easiest way. While it may not have had a link, it is still trying to get you to go somewhere. Thats the purpose of junk e-mails. Block them and delete them. Never need to worry then.

Hi,

The code could have been a link itself if you happened to click on it...

The message that I was talking about is called "image" spam. This kind of spam is used to bypass any spam filters that might be in place. They can get their message across without being blocked because there is no text in the message to analyze. There is nothing in the email to click on.

But many email clients have a "return receipt" feature that notifies the sender when their email is opened. If this isn't turned off, the sender will know that you opened the message and that the email address is active.

I recall an engineer that use to get very upset. He didn't think I was reading his email, because be never received a return receipt. So one time he confronted me on the issue. I simply told him that I turned off the return receipts and that it was no business of his when I read email. He never bothered me again.
