UT2WQ--Andrii in Ukraine--Key Collector and E-bay Seller
« on: March 25, 2022, 08:51:29 AM »

A few days ago I noticed a posting in QRZ from a fellow who ordered a NOS Soviet-era key from Andy, UT2WQ in Ukraine who sells keys and other related ham items on E-bay under seller "anbayua".  Andy's bio is on QRZ along with pictures of his collection and his ham radio story.  He noted on his E-bay site that "By buying items you are helping the Ukrainian Army and most of the profits after taxes go to support the Army."  He also warned that shipping is ongoing but delays could take until May.

Nonetheless several hams have ordered from him and his storefront has a number of keys and other interesting items.  This morning I received my shipping information and a very kind note from Andy--frankly I don't care whether the key arrives in May or ever, it was a good feeling to make the order and get a response so quickly.

Since I have always been fascinated with NOS stuff this is the E-bay item number for the key I bought (144206041658) but as I mentioned, he has lots of other items as well.  The item's sold counter shows 59 sold as of this writing, hopefully I can help...

I hope I am not pushing any wrong buttons in this politically charged atmosphere but I am sure the moderators will keep me in line.

Thanks for reading,
David, Tucson AZ

Thanks for the heads up on that, I'm glad to see Andy is still trading in spite of everything that's going on over there. I have just purchased one of those keys just now. I've purchased quite a few bits of ex Soviet gear off of him, it's all well made and will probably out last me.  ;)

Andy's bio is on QRZ along with pictures of his collection and his ham radio story.

It's interesting that many of his USSR keys have the tension spring BEHIND the pivot, it pulls the lever arm down, rather than a spring pushing up from in front of the pivot.  I'm not a straight key collector but the few I've owned (a Nye Viking and Japanese both from the 60's) all have had the spring in front.

I recently thought it would be interesting to get a few keys made by our old Cold War adversaries, I have a Chinese K4 and one USSR key from Andy (1986 vintage).  I've ordered a Soviet Special Forces  miniature key with the matching plate to use a leg strap and a mid-50's USSR Ministry of Radio Technic Industry key from Andy.

Recently received the small Soviet Special Forces "leg key" and USSR key from the 1950's from Andy, mail from Lviv took about 3 weeks.  He packs well, each key wrapped tightly in something like Saran Wrap, then wrapped in foam sheet, with a signed QSL card with each key.

Well, I've been using the key Andy sent me for a couple of months now and it is indeed a nice key to use, there is only one problem when I was using it late into the evening, the next morning my wife asked what the hell were you doing last night? It sounded like you were thumping the desk ;D

So this is a daytime key and the Kent key is the night time key which is much quieter.
