The QYT CB-27 is actually EXPENSIVE as CB radios of that type go!

Everybody's favorite subject!! lmao

Anyway.. Does anyone know the maximum allowable voltage on the Mic Jack of a Chinese radio? (specifically in my case, a Wouxon KG-UVD1)  but I imagine a Baofeng or any other similar Chinese radio would be similar.

probably it has 5 to 8 volts on it. Why not just measure it?
I 'm curious as to why it matters?

If the radio is non-compliant in non-amateur bands (i.e., not certified) — then it cannot be used at all, even in amateur bands.

There is no certification required nor even possible for an amateur radio transmitter.

My post was a quote from Laura Smith of the FCC. Maybe you should tell them they are misinformed.

Take a look at Part 97. The only certification that is possible is for an external amplifier. Perhaps you are thinking of Part 15 certification that applies to receivers?

Laura Smith rolled back her ridiculous assertion with the following. Note that it supports my assertion regarding Part 97 certification:

Quote from:  Laura Smith
"The bottom line here is that if the radios are compliant with our rules (have been certified in the non-amateur bands) an amateur can continue to use them in the amateur bands. Of course, if the amateur operates them outside of their licensed bands, they would be in violation of the Commission’s rules. If the radios are not compliant with our rules (have not been certified in the non-amateur bands), they are not to be used."

As a licensed amateur radio operator you can modify any radio for the purpose of using it in the ham bands
PROVIDING spurious emissions are kept at or below an acceptable level.

You can build your own gear from scratch, or hack an existing device for HAM BAND use.

There are even transmitters and receivers that a non licensed person can build, but the transmitter cannot exceed a certain power level and cannot transmit more than 500 feet.

Where a person runs into legal issues is that many licensed and non licensed  individuals want to use the ham gear outside of the bands, which to a certain extent can be done providing you follow power restrictions.
But who actually check the power output.

Non licensed users can be tracked down by the monitors and often face stiff fines.
Licensed abusers face stiff fine and loss of license.

This information is easily found in any of the tech study guides and rule books, not just fcc guides.

But in the shtf scenario is anyone going to worry about fcc rules?

To put a fine point on it, you don't need to be an amateur radio operator to do any of that. You only need the license when you put the transmitter on the air under Part 97.

Nearly all the Part 15 intentional radiators are regulated by field strength rather than power or distance.
