The USA Icom warranty is not what it is in other countries, in EU its two years, ZL now 5 but not sure about VK but here in the USA its one year and I am not sure but because of the display issue that might be just for the display the life of the radio depending on serial numbers. The USA Yaesu warranty is three years which is not bad for an amateur radio gear plus I have heard with Yaesu if they had a radio come back for service for the same issue on the second trip they covered shipping both ways were Icom basically my 7610 went back twice for the same display issue and ended up paying shipping to Icom both times and even on the third trip as well.
I have also been in a similar situation with Yaesu on an FT1000MP and they replaced my FT1000MP before the 1998 SQWWSSB contest, swapped the entire rig out and it was out of warranty by six months, covered shipping and paid 3 day air so I got the radio Friday afternoon just before the contest started. That my friends is excellent customer service plus I have always found Yaesu to be more approachable with service issues than Icom which has always had a strict bunch of rules but Icom's service station in Michigan called SAR's could teach Icom Corporate a few tricks cause SAR's is Top Notch!
