Class "C" Mobile? Need Ideas.
« on: April 19, 2022, 10:24:30 AM »

I've done a bunch of mobile ops in my ham career (cars, trucks, trailers) but never from a powered RV. Any ideas and/or photos (any information indeed) is appreciated. It ain't happening this week or even this month but a class C is on the horizon. Thanks for insights! 73

Also, take a look at Ward Silver's (N0AX) presentation on ground and bonding.  The last half of the presentation focuses on mobile installations.

Thank you both. I am familiar with Alan's website and the Grounding video info. What I am really looking for is real world class C installations (especially the antenna) that have been sucessful for the owner. Trials and tribulations of real, existing installs. Just was curious for whomever may have tried something and it worked...or didn't.

Are we talking HF or V/U FM?  Operating underway, or just stationary?  What's the performance expectation?  Lots of people have installed radios in RV's, but how you install yours will depend on what you want it to do when you're done.

I too have had a few decades of mobile operation of all kinds in cars and pickups.  Operating from an RV is an entirely different animal so before you start drilling holes, put some miles on it and decide what would be the solution for this vehicle.

Hi Mark. Well, my ops will be HF and both in motion and stationary. My major unknown is if the RV isn't an Airstream (it won't be) what are the possibilities of mounting the antenna (not on the rook). I've used a Tarheel on the rear ladder with good results but that was then, this is now. The RV isn't picked out yet either. I am just wondering, ahead of time, what results vs. placements others have had success (or not) with. I don't expect more than reasonable results...no contests from the RV. We're getting closer now I think. Thanks, B
