Update 5/03/22.

I appreciate the good suggestions.  Yes I am original owner.
I transmitted from the 940, with the 890 on & heard nothing on either antenna port, going from AM,FM to USB/LSB & CW.  Hooked 890 to a dipole, repeated test, still nothing.

I contacted GigaParts.   After 10 days ALL service goes to KW USA.

As for KenWood service in Long Beach Ca.... Nothing gets serviced there, phone help only, suggested full reset, two more re-sets attempted without success.  All repairs go to New York.  Gone are the days to take the rig in.
Urrrrg. Lol

Frankly it seems nobody @ GigaParts or KW gives a Shxxt.
Lessons learned- unpack that radio ASAP & check it out.

Well, at least you have confirmed the radio is "broken". And yes you have learned a hard lesson, and perhaps others here can benefit from your honest observations.  When you get it repaired please let us know what was found. I wish you the best of luck.  73  James

I'm not sure I believe that.  I sent a TS-590S to FTH for the warranty power overshoot update.  The repair was done in City of Industry, CA and I got great service from them. You can even check the status of your repair online.  They are the authorized west coast Kenwood warranty service center.  What's more, they are right down the road from you. Did you click on the link to FTH in my previous post?  All that being said, things can and do change, but it sounds like they're still doing Kenwood repairs to me.  Sure seems like it would be worth a phone call or email before you send the 890 clear across the country.  Their $35 diagnostic fee is cheaper than UPS to NY.  At least you'd know what's wrong.  If it's warranty, they'll fix it free anyhow.

Interesting.  I'm curious how long ago that 590 went there.   I wonder if being warranty work for the overshoot, changes the need of shipping to New York.   Hence it would be at KW JVC costs???  My rig is past the KW warranty.

I did follow the link/s.  I found and called FTH Kenwood Authorized Service Center at 20801 Currier Rd. City Of Industry Ca.  (626) 333-2443.
I spoke to a fella said he was in Long Beach, he further said they no longer service in So. Cal anymore.  He suggested the re-set and said he would Email me the directions to reset to insure I did it properly.
Email received from Leo Fahmie.   LFahmie@us.jvc.kenwood.com    His email directions mirrored the manual.

Agreed-City Of Industry is very close to me and would be my preferred choice than NY.

We have an update on why the 890 was not working !!!
I was informed by John Klewer, N6AX.  "Found the problem...whoever installed the filter left a cable unplugged"
Simply calling balls & strikes here-Gigaparts Las Vegas installed the added CW filter.  Lesson learned is tryout that new radio ASAP.

John has worked on my radios for over 15 years, always a satisfied customer.  I am so grateful to know & have him available to work on my radios.

You're in the backyard of Kenwood's west coast repair facility:

Email:   support@fthgroupinc.com
Address:   20801 Currier Road
City of Industry, CA 91789
Phone:   626-333-2435
Fax:   626-333-2407

https://www.fthgroupinc.com/service/welcomecomm.php

Why don't you just drive it over there and ask them WTF?  If it's truly a warranty issue, they'll take care of it.

FTH no longer services amateur radio.

The only authorized service center for Kenwood amateur radio now is:

UNITED RADIO, INC.
5717 ENTERPRISE PARKWAY
EAST SYRACUSE, NY 13057

https://www.unitedradio.com/
Phone: 315-446-8700 (Car Entertainment)
Phone: 866-877-3784 (Land Mobile Radio)

Glad you got the problem resolved and that it was minor.

I added the 270 Hz filter to my 890 as well.  The installation is simple and straightforward.  It does not require the removal, repositioning, nor re-installation of any cables.  Whoever installed the filter must have unplugged a cable inadvertently and not noticed.  Hard to believe no one verified the operation after the filter installation.  One would think that the installer would at least want to know if the filter was working properly.  He should have discovered the lack of rx or tx at that point.  Sloppy work.

Wow.  hard to believe that any tech would be that careless..  well maybe not. :(
Glad it was not an extensive repair.  The fact it was caused by a dealers tech,  um, not so good. I guess the rig worked fine when it left Kenwood in Japan. That's good at least. :)

For those Hams with Kenwood rigs, it was noticed at 2022 HAMvention this year was a NO SHOW.

Reading the mail from the K9ZW Blog site, Steve has some comments on this company
WITH VARYING FREQUENCY – AMATEUR RADIO PONDERINGS

WHERE HAS KENWOOD GONE? 2022 VERSION (Posted June 3, 2022)
https://k9zw.wordpress.com/2022/06/03/where-has-kenwood-gone-2022-version/

With their absence at Hamvention 2022 where they have been one of the stallworths for decades or other post-virus ham fest  like Hamcation, Hams are asking “What has happened to Kenwood?”

I un packed my KW 890 yesterday.  Radio sat in factory box/s for 10 months while I erected a LM 470 tower with Optibeam OB 11-3.

Ok, you got me. I assumed the radio was untouched since it left Kenwood.

At least we now know, no matter on which planet kenwood is performing service, this had nothing to do with kenwood and most likely to do with Elvis working part time at Gigaparts installing filters :)
