Dust cover for Begali Graciella
« on: April 25, 2022, 08:51:23 AM »

When I bought my Begali Simplex, it came with a dust cover; not anything fancy, but it does the job.  I received a Graciella from the wife of a friend and co-worker who is now a SK.  I'm just wondering if there is a decent fitted dust cover for it.  Searching the i2rtf site and doing web searches hasn't turned up anything for me.  Thanks in advance, K8DIL

If Begali doesn't have one, suggest you contact Walt Hoppe, KC8J and he can probably make one for you.    You may need to provide dimensions if he doesn't already have them.
whhoppe22@aol.com     He's done several for me.

Pete G0PNM makes custom covers for many paddles and the Begali are his favorite.

Thanks all for the replies  I sent an email to Begali, and then found a reference to Pete Sobye (G0PNM) on a YouTube video and sent him an email as well for pricing (different keys may be more than the single price he had listed).
The covers on Gifts4hams look really nice; depending on what I hear from Pete and Begali, I may go that route.
Again, thanks for all the replies.

I have had several key covers made by Pete; in fact, I just received 2 from him in the mail today. Always excellent quality and service, and if he doesn't have a pattern for a particular key you can send him the dimensions and he'll make a custom one. Highly recommended!

I did this article on a key cover but was lambasted for not spending enough money for a key cover.

Bruna replied to my email, and indicated that they do not provide a cover for the Graciella; Only, Simplex, Classic Signature , Pearl Contour Pearl and Sculpture keys have the plastic Dust Cover made by Begali.  She also referred me to GIFTS4HAMS and G0PNM.

I got a reply from Pete at G0PNM, indicating the price for the Graciella is £35 plus shipping; no extra charge for engraving a call sign.  Still trying to decide between these two options.

Not everyone lambasted your idea, just most of them.  I like it. Will have to try.

I just throw an old handkerchief over mine on those rare occassions when I actually care whether it gets dusty or not.  Probably a good thing I didn't write an eHam article about it ...

I keep the keys I'm not using at the moment in plastic boxes that are designed for model cars. They're big enough to hold a bug. Cost is just a few dollars.

For the two or three keys I'm using at the moment, I have on my desk one of those photographer's lens cleaning brushes that looks and opens like a lipstick. When a mote of dust appears on a key, I smite it with the brush.

There's a method for solving simple kinds of problems like dust on keys widely referred to as K.I.S.S. It's certainly worked for me for many decades in many different endeavors.
