FDIM - QRP Gathering
« on: April 28, 2022, 06:15:45 AM »

FDIM is Four Days In May (May 19-22 2022)

This is a QRP gathering that coincides with the Dayton Hamvention. During FDIM, registrants are involved in an all day symposium of presenters from the world of QRP on the first day, which is a Thursday. Then on Thursday evening, QRP-ARCI hosts vendor night in the ballroom from 8PM to 10PM. You can come and see the latest kits, the latest doo dads, and meet some of your favorite QRP vendors. A lot of times these vendors are here offering special pricing to FDIM attendees.

On Friday the Hamvention opens up bright and early, FDIM continues at 3PM on Friday with the annual Buildathon. This year Rex Harper W1REX of QrpMe will be hosting a building session of a TTL Transmitter kit. This is a great place to learn new soldering techniques, ask questions of the designer, and just have a great time hanging out with other builders and QRPers. At 7PM we have the Show and Tell Homebrew Contest where attendees bring their latest creations to show and tell about, this lasts until about 9PM. We also have the now famous 2N2222 Challenge, led by David Cripe NM0S. In this event builders will see who can develop the most power for the longest time using a single 2N2222 transistor. You will be amazed at the clever ways builders can turn this little General Purpose transistor into an RF emitting power house. Also, at 8PM the Club Night begins in the ballroom, this is a opportunity for QRP Clubs to come and setup a table and show their stuff, I always loved visiting the Wisconsin Cheese Heads QRP booth for some tasty treats. This will keep you hopping from 7PM to 10PM.

On Saturday it is day two of the Hamvention, at 7PM the QRP Banquet gets underway, during the banquet many door prizes are randomly drawn and awarded to attendees.  This year the grand daddy of all Grand Prizes is a brand new Icom IC-705 transceiver from our QRP friends at Icom! We will also be raffling off a KX2 station as well. You don't want to miss out. After dinner David Cripe will be announcing the 2022 class of QRP Hall of Famers. Typically the banquet session is over by 9PM, bring QSL cards to trade!

Sunday is the last day of Hamvention, time to head back home.

Well in a few paragraphs this is what FDIM is. For me, my times at FDIM made memories I will cherish forever, meeting fellow QRPers and getting to sit down and look at various setups and talking about QRP adventures with other QRPers, was the most fun. It's a great brotherhood!
