XV1X QSL?
« on: April 28, 2022, 08:40:58 AM »

Anyone receive a QSL from XV1X using the PayPal method listed on his QRZ page?

I've done it successfully three times, and a friend of mine another 2 times.

Response times vary. During the height of COVID mail slowdowns one request of mine took over 4 months.

Also received several QSLs using his PayPal option, even with Covid delays the longest wait was around 5 weeks. He is one of the good guys..

Thanks guys. I put in my request. This is an ATNO for me after 55 years of operation.

Congratulations on your ATNO.

He's very active on the bands, so odds are good you'll run into him again. I've had the pleasure of working him on 80, 60, 40, 30, and 17m.

Yes, I'm not that bothered about HF QSO cards but I was particularly keen to get a card for our 6m QSO as it's the furthest I've worked on multi-hop Es from G: 10,121km / 6288 miles. Took a while to arrive but got here  ;D

He used to do LotW until his eyesight deteriorated.

Well I sent him the Paypal and info for several contacts.  I hope that his XYL is keeping this going.

In the past year, or so,  I worked him 2 times and received QSLs both times.
If I recall correctly, Eddie's wife handles the QSL cards for him, and the mail service is slow.

But as mentioned, reliable.

Cheers,

Same experience here. Snail-mail only, and you can pay via PayPal so no worrying about your envelope with green stamps disappearing into a black hole. When I was a Padawan DXer there was a saying that in those pre-cluster and pre-LoTW days hit the nail on the head: DX teaches you two things—geography and patience. Nowadays, if I'm lucky, I can see a needed spot or hear an alarm, double-click an FT8 CQ and have the QSO confirmed from Indonesia or Moldova within two minutes. Patience indeed. :)

Great times are at hand, and soon there will be DX for all—although more for some than for others.

In the olden days.......working the rare expedition with a crummy signal and not getting an "insurance qso"; waiting months for a card, or sometimes "not in log"....The kids have it easy these days!
Clublog and LOTW have done wonders for keeping the excitement.

I worked Eddie a couple of weeks ago for an ATNO (#321, yay!! Been chasing Vietnam for years) and I have used his paypal option. I got an email from him thanking me for the paypal request so I imagine at some point it'll get here and will be reaching out to a card checker!  8)
