Question on Yaesu FTM300 scan function
« on: May 09, 2022, 05:37:21 AM »

I've narrowed my mobile rig choices down to either an Icom ID-2730A or a Yaesu FTM-300.

I know - the 2730A is analog only, I understand that.  I also know that I would have to buy the mounting bracket as an option.

But, the real deciding factor for me is coming down to scan capabilities.  Both radios are wide band receive.  They'll bot receive aircraft bands, they'll both receive public safety/service frequencies above the amateur radio bands in VHF.

I found that the 2730A will let you scan memory channels but the way I read the FTM300 manual it looks like you set low and high frequency limits and it scans everything in between.  Is that the way the 300 works or is there some way to set it to scan only frequencies programmed into your radio?  I don't want to scan a whole range of frequencies, just specific ones for the public safety agencies around me who operate on VHF/FM.

Thanks

The FTM-300 does scan memories.  Pages 44-45 of the manual cover this function.  It would be a rare mobile unit that didn't scan memories.

Thanks.  The way they had it worded it was a bit confusing...at least to me anyway.
