Ten Tec Omni VII MARS Mod
« on: January 01, 2023, 08:58:40 AM »

Since Ten Tec is no more, I am looking for someone who was a Ten Tec technician in Sevierville, and who might have the computer program for generating the file required to open up the transmitter on the Omni VII.  Yes, fellows, I've checked with all the third-party service people and they can't help.  And no, "Dishtronix" can't or won't help either ... and I BEGGED them!  This was a proprietary system Ten Tec used which required the serial number and proof you need the mod .... I am hoping someone out there knows somebody who can help.  I'm desperate.  Thanks es 73.

Ten Tec continues to claim that they are open and have always been open since the company was founded in 1968.
You need to continue to Email or even call them at +1 614 675 2497.  In any case, they might not be able to help you but they should provide you with an answer to your question because it's the right thing to do.

The only other person who might know something is KI4JPL, John Henry worked for Ten Tec in Sevierville, TN.  He wrote a lot of software for Ten Tec and you can probably PM him on this site or QRZ.

I'm going to go out on a limb here Neil and assume that Ten Tec did not respond to your requests.  It says on the webpage that they are moving.  Evidently, you will just have to wait until they are done moving, whenever that is.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you though, they don't seem to be showing any signs of life at all.  I am also pretty certain this thread will get locked, you can discuss any radio or radio company on this site except Ten Tec.  The site monitors close every thread that has anything to do with them, they seem to protect them like they are shareholders or something.

Hopefully, someone will have the file you are looking for to do the MARS mod, I wish you the best of luck, and I wish I could offer more help.  73 Neil, DE John.

John?  Give it a rest.

Neil?  Dishtronix, sad to say, may simply not have file or information to give you. Ten Tec went through two ownership changes before Dishtronix bought them; one of whom started liquidating the company.  It is very possible that the information on the MARS mod was lost or discarded long before Mike bought what was left of the company.

Neil had a very legitimate question and I believe I offered him a reasonable response.  Making excuses for a company that you know nothing about does not help his situation.

Chrysler went through three ownership changes and you can still get parts and software for their products.  Stop trying so hard to take the high moral ground because frankly, there is no longer any ground to stand on in this case.

I went through something similar with the Uniden HR2510 and the 10-12 meter Chipswitch.

I have a few of the new codes and the original serial numbers.  Attempting to rewrite a piece of software from a long ago discarded calculator (HP) isn't for the faint of heart.

But it can be done.  I've been doing this on and off for about a year and am close.

Usually just bit shifting and XOR or other obfuscation can easily be deconstructed and reconstructed.  The thing needed is a decent set of A = B data sets.  Which I was able to get on the Chipswitch.
