Antenna suggestions for BMW X3
« on: May 19, 2022, 06:45:13 PM »

Looking for antenna suggestions for late model BMW X3.  No holes,   No mag mounts, and no on-glass antennas.   With those limitations, what has worked for other X3 owners?  VHF/UHF.

Looks like you're down to a trunk lip mount on the hood or rear hatch.  Maybe something affixed to that "visor" on the rear hatch?

Yes, Mark, that seems to be my choices.  Likely a TM8 trunk lip mount on the hood.   Much as I would hate to drill a couple small out-of-sight holes for a diamond mount near the rear visor, that could be a consideration.  Was hoping to see a reply from someone who may have gone this route....   has benefits as radio could be mounted in the rear since that is where the battery is located....

Just a question, why can't you use a thru glass mount on the rear window, on one of the rear back windows.

Deep tint in glass affects through glass RF coupling.

After a further examination of this vehicle I am wondering if there is an antenna mount that could clamp to the roof rails on this vehicle.....

Roof rack mount? Yes. But you loose your roof rack for carrying stuff.

Never mount an antenna on the hood/front fender. No professional commercial radio system installer will advise you to do that.

Here's a very good antenna system - for your rear-driver's side door, if the edge thickness allowd. Mount so that at least one-half of the whip clears the roofline Along upright edge or top), and you will have  hard-to-beat 2m/440 performance.
