This afternoon I worked a guy on FT8 who’s display came up as I8OHQ/AWD in India. It was a full FT8 exchange and later I got e-mail from e-QSL that he had replied to my auto QSL which kicks off when I complete and FT8 exchange. Info in Italian (which I don’t read) about some award activity. I was listed as a confirmed QSO in it – had my call, name, QTH, and the proper date/time frame.
In the half hour or so after me I saw him have completed exchanges with a DL3, a W9, a R&, a HK2, a M3, and an IZ8. So whomever he is and whatever he is doing he’s being heard and worked all over.
His QRZ bio for I8OHQ only shows his Italian info. No mention of a contest or portable operation. And AWD is not in my prefix chart as being an entity.
Did I work a pirate? Someone newer at FT8 with an improperly set up configuration for his call and grid?
Any thoughts or ideas you have would be nice. India – if I worked one – would be an all time new country and one of the last 3 on my “sure wish I could work one someday” bucket list. 61+ years and I never didn’t know who I worked or where before.
