And finally, if I find a simple logging program with .adif output, one that does not require mastering an entire screen's worth of variables, I will post that link as well.

It has been said before, but I will say it again.  What you seek is HAMRS.

It is geared for simple logging. has no instructions to speak of, it can be set for POTA specifically, or SOTA or field day.  It can be mastered in about 5 minutes, it makes an adif file for export to POTA by design. AND it has been mentioned before and you ignored it. So there you go. Free for PC's, and costs $5 for tablets and phones to download in their respective locations. Below is the link for the PC version.

Thanks, I've seen the scripts for Excel. Unfortunately my spreadsheet (gulag sheets) does not support macros. What I was looking for was a utility to convert an already existing .xls file to .adif.

K0UA: You are correct. I downloaded HAMRS again, took another look. It is perfect for what I need.

Anyone looking for a simple to use but effective logger should check this out:

Thank you thank you thank you. I'm sending in my first log today. Will let you know how it goes.

I'm surprised but happy this request resulted in so much discussion. Thank you for all the great suggestions. I have prepared and submitted 4 logs using HAMRS. Let's see how that goes.

IMO our great hobby is in desperate need of products that are functional, accessible, and do not require a steep learning curve. We are in danger of going the way of contract bridge, a game that was wildly popular 30-40 years ago but which is currently experiencing death-by-demographics.

We are not going to attract many young people through our current fixation on Rube Goldberg-esque systems with dozens of wires and connectors, software/equipment that takes many hours to master, or our 1980s-era relationship with computers.

Some of you are reading this and thinking, "Dammit that's how I learned, that's the HAM way. If he doesn't like it let him start his own hobby (or his own club, etc.). Hark! The tubes are now warm enough for me to transmit. Yippee."

And that is 80% of the problem.

...and some people are claiming this is no longer a technical hobby.
