NCX1000 question
« on: May 29, 2022, 08:58:03 AM »

My NCX1000 developed an issue and I need to make a new interconnect coax for the second IF board.  The input signal from the crystal filter is intermittent thru the rca jack on the board.  Does anyone know what kind of coax that white stuff is?

Thanks for your help,

Suggest using a small diameter 50-ohm Teflon insulated coax such as RG-178.  I haven't looked at my NCX-1000 in a while after spending eons working through its many issues, but believe that coax link you are referring to has small RCA plugs (short center pin) on either end.  If you have trouble finding those, drop me a note via QRZ and I'll send you a few.

Yes, Nick, they use short pinned RCA plugs.  I have some 178 and can make a new cable.... I would like to buy some short pin RCA's and will look at mouser... Boy there are a lot of cables to that board....

Thanks

Yep...Now if your 1000 was working and is just intermittent, then thank your lucky stars!  Bob W0YVA and I were independently restoring two of those gems and found where a large number of those 1/4w low value resistors scattered across all of the many pc boards had drifted way out of tolerance.  Over 100% out and higher in many instances to the point we just surrendered and replaced them all.

Once working they really are hot, nice sounding receivers and the transmit audio gets good reports. All it really needed was a CW filter.

I found some RG178 and made a new cable connector yesterday.  I cut off 1/8" from that long pin on the rca now I need to remove the filter module to get to the other end....
