i HAVE BEEN REPAIRING BROKEN ALIGNMENT PINS ON THE OCTAL STYLE CHASSIS PLUGS IN MY INVADER 2000, JOHNSON 500s, AND HARVEY WELLS TBS-50D TRANSMITTER. AT THEIR AGE THE PINS HAVE BEEN WORN AND BREAKAGE HAPPENS. REPAIR TAKES A FAIR AMOUNT OF EFFORT AND TIME AND I HAVE ATTEMPTED A CHANGE TO PREVENT FUTURE FAILURES.
MANY OF THE SNAP RING MOUNTED PLUGS HAVE A HOLLOW ALIGNMENT CENTER PIN WHICH IS SOMEWHAT FRAGILE. TO BOLSTER THE PINS WITH MORE SUPPORT, PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE CONNECTOR, I USE STRONG FILLED EPOXY LIKE JB WELD OR HARBOR FREIGHT STEEL FILLED EPOXY TO FILL THE INSIDE OF THE PIN.
THIS IS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL STRENGTH TO THE PIN AND HOPEFULLY PREVENT ANOTHER FAILURE DOWN THE LOG BOOK. ITS AN EASY CHANGE AND DOES NOT SHOW VISUALLY, THIS IDEA IS OFFERED UP FOR YOU TO CONSIDER IF YOUR PLUG IS IN NEED OF REPAIR.
