Another option is a digital hand held and a “hotspot”, or access point node. The nodes are easy to configure and use, no point paying for the ones from dealers, they almost all use Pi-Star and that’s free, with tons of help on their forum.

Many of us have 2 or 3 spare “Pies” in the shack, no need to buy a new one, just ask around. With Pi-Star you only need a few milli Watts from a hand held, so you can use it around the house.
