Dishonest ebay seller W7RF
« on: June 02, 2022, 08:35:32 PM »

Radio Dan (W7RF) as he names himself sold an amplifier relay cable for a Yaesu FTDX-10 and sent an antenna tuner cable. He also knows eBay does not pay attention to the item advertised and sending another item thus eBay refused refund. Stay away from this crook! Here is his address and below is his false eBay listing.

One mistake and suddenly he's a crook?   I've done business with him before more than once with zero problems of any kind.

It's things like this that give ebay sellers a bad name---even when they don't deserve it!   I don't suppose you've contacted him before posting this, have you?  Perhaps he'll be happy to correct the mistake right away?

There is at least one other seller on eBay selling an 8 pin cable for the FTDX-10 to connect to a linear.
That listing explains that it is an 8 pin amp connector for the tuner connector.
Page 13 of the FTDX-10 Op manual shows that the Tuner connector has the same TX-Gnd signal that the Linear connector has and, of course, ground.  Those are two signals needed for a basic RCA connection to key a linear amp.    They "seem" to be the same signals as on the Linear connector,  but that needs to be verified.
I think he could have put a clear explanation on the posting.    I've dealt with RadioDan in the past, and there were no issues.
In my opinion,  Yaesu caused problems by not including a mating 10 pin miniDIN connector with the radio.   It's not that easy to find one.
One thing I'm not sure of--will the same delay menu settings apply to the signals on the Tuner Connector as on the Linear Connector.
Suggest verifying on the schematic that the signals are the same on both connectors,  or ask Dan.   I would check, but I no longer have my FTDX-10.

I've purchased 3 amplifier cables and a buffer relay from RadioDan on several different occasions and never had an issue. He is a high volume seller with good feedback and that gave me assurance that I wouldn't be taken. There's got to be more to this story because I don't think this seller would intentionally cheat a buyer out his money. Could be a problem with eBay, which is a whole other story.

Not dishonest at all. After reading his ad, you received exactly what he described. He is a very honest, reputable seller.

I think you just got a little too Anal. Even DX Engineering sells the "tune" cable to key an amp. As long as it works . . . It worked on my FTDX10 so who cares.

Radio Dan was the amateur face of Henry Radio for decades.

You bought the wrong cable, as pointed out in another thread.

We all make mistakes.  But to smear Dan as somehow dishonest because you screwed up speaks volumes to your character.

Get over yourself.  You bought the wrong cable.  You made a mistake.  You opened a case against a seller with thousands of positive feedback for doing you wrong.  EBay found you to be the one whom made the mistake.  PayPal said you made the mistake.

After all that, you came on eham and possibly other forums and denigrated someone for your own shortcoming.

Pretty telling where the problem is in this transaction.

The link shared in your smear of Radio Dan clearly indicates that it is a tuner cable using the contact closure to control the amp relay. Shame on you and Eham. Radio Dan is one of the most reputable, honest sellers on Ebay.

As a seller on Ebay, uneducated buyers are one of the biggest problems Ive encountered, unwilling to read instructions, unwilling to read item description and then bash the seller.
Eham needs to pull this unwarranted attack on Dan. READ THE ITEM DESCRIPTION!

The item Dan shipped will not key an amplifier with the FTDX-10 period as the eBay post clearly states. He refused a refund. I refund anyone that is not pleased with my items and I sold over 3000 items on eBay. He would rather keep the profit than refund. Anyway you want to look at it, no refund is not honest! Even eBay paid the refund as they came to same conclusion as myself.

BTW- eBay stated they are reviewing Dan's ad and may remove it as deceptive. Yaesu manual does not state it is safe current wise to use the antenna tuner to key an amplifier. Yaesu clearly states to use the amplifier relay output to key an amplifier.

Which is why he put in his details to verify application. Again...attention to details.

Here is an issue using the antenna tuner to key an amplifier as found on the internet. 'I used the tuner socket to key my amp because that connector or cable is easier to find. When I started having problems with the rig that required occasional resets, I switched to the proper amplifier cable and the issues went away'.
Here is another response using the tuner cable for keying an amp. 'Tony I had the same problem. Called Yaesu tech department. They advised not to use an 8 pin din from the tuner port. I am using a foot switch to engage my amp an have ordered a 10 pin din to rca pin'.

Here is the entire posting:

In the title Dan is selling the cable as an amplifier relay cable. Per Yaesu, it is not to be used for that purpose. Need I say more?

I am truly humbled by the outpouring of support that all of you in reply to this false attack have shown. I try to make things Hams want and need. The cable this disgruntled person refers to is exactly as I describe it to be and I offer it at a substantially lower price than the 10 pin offering we have.
I have received dozens of positive feedbacks from buyers of this exact cable from this exact ad - and not one single negative feedback on this cable! Despite the accurate ad title and ad description, he refuses to read the description and wants all of you to know that!
Any of you that have gone to that ad can see for yourself how accurate the ad description is!
While I appreciate very much the kind words you all have offered on my behalf, this complainer just cannot stand to be wrong and he has gone to great lengths to show all of you who he truly is. Further showing how he cannot accept how wrong he is, he continues trying to prove it with more posts! What's that saying - "when you're explaining over and over - you're losing"
His eBay username is justforfun.2010
I have added him to my blocked bidder list, you can do as you see fit but I wish I would have known to add this person before he purchased. Maybe he helps you with his ridiculous vindictive rants to now be aware of him.

Again, thanks to all of you for your kind defense of me and as W7ZJ put it so succinctly - READ THE ITEM DESCRIPTION!
