Fixed (or pretty sure I did) Heathkit MH102 meter
« on: June 05, 2022, 02:38:58 PM »

My father got it at a hamfest many eons ago, and it seems he never opened it up to inspect the handiwork of the previous owner.  It was getting intermittant flakey on me, so took it apart.  The soldering work was not so great, so I resoldered each and every joint on the circuit board, and on the UHF connectors.  It looks to be fixed (you know how that goes sometimes!  :) )

The rig used to act like the antenna got disconnected, so I think one of the solder joints on the meter's UHF connectors was bad.

So you may want to inspect kit built equipment you acquire used before putting it into service in your shack.

+2  I always fail to imagine the frustration an anguish the Heath trouble-shooters dealt with on a daily basis from kit builders who couldn't make a simple solder joint!
