Kenwood speaker mike used with Baofeng HTs?
« on: June 06, 2022, 07:46:33 PM »

Hello All =
I was wondering if the Kenwood KMC-45 speaker/mike will work with my Baofeng UV-82L?

Sure looks like it: Baofeng "emulates" the Kenwood pinouts for speaker-mics in many of their offerings.

I've used them interchangeably - kenwood mics on TYT's and TYT mics on kenwoods (TYT also = bofang).  Depending on the model of each the fidelity and amplitude were variable, so I wouldn't consider any possible combination of them to be universally interchangeable in terms of sound.  You're going to have to try it and see if you like it, but it will "work".

Yes. The 2 pin Kenwood mic is compatible with the Baofeng HT's.

I have also used a Commountain speaker/mic with great reports, whereas the cheap "Baofeng" speaker/mics on AliExpress, Amazon and Ebay seem to be all junk fakes with horrible mic elements in them.

I only wish Commountain made one for my Yaesu HT's with a single pin.

If you decide to go the BT route, Pryme Electronics makes a 2 pin BT transmitter and a mini PTT button to pair your radio with various BT headsets with mics. Mine is a Comexion BT headset that works fantastic.

Just some food for thought.

Hello -
Thanks for the heads up on Commountain mikes. They seem to be unavailable but I found an alternative, well-reviewed mike  on Amazon. Yes, the usual cheap speaker mikes on ebay are bad. Mine had poor audio and it would not even change bands on my Baofeng UV-82L like the original did. Also, the coiled cord was too short and poor.
