Using Receiver Antenna Output on KWM-2 for SDR
« on: June 22, 2022, 12:05:16 PM »

Going to try out a basic SDR with my KWM-2 to create a waterfall display and to my reading it looks like I can use the KWM-2 REC ANT output for the antenna on the SDR dongle in lieu of adding an SDR T/R switch like the MFJ-1708.  This is my first venture into the world of SDR's and would like to avoid an early catastrophe!  Any guidance on recommended software would be appreciated as well.

It's a new world for me!  Many thanks,

David

Not unless the RX output on the KWM-2 goes to ground on transmit and I'm pretty sure that it does not. The MFJ-1708 simply grounds the SDR input on TX so no magic in it.

You could perhaps use the amp keying relay of the KWM-2 to key an external relay to do the same thing.....

Just checked the schematic, the relay does indeed ground out the Rx antenna in transmit mode.  Thanks for the reminder!

Very good :). You're all set then. I used a KWM-2 for several years in the 1980s, wonderful rig. Have fun!
