Icom v8000 desk mic
« on: June 28, 2022, 04:25:33 AM »

I just bought a brand new SM-26 desk microphone. Have the volume control turned all the way up. The audio reports have been poor since I have been told it needs more gain. The V8000 seems to have no internal mic gain control. I have to talk right up into it like a hand mic for good transmit audio. Any ideas of how to improve it?

The V8000 is a VHF/UHF radio. Did you ask a knowledgeable Icom rep if that mic was suitable for that radio?

Not compatible.
The V8000 uses a dynamic 600 ohm microphone... the HM133v.
SM26 mic is " Compatible radios also use HM-100N, HM-148 and HM-152T hand microphones "....
This is an electret mic with a different pinout and for their trunking radios systems.

I'm pretty sure the HM-133V is an electret microphone.

And DX engineering says the SM-26 is compatible with the V8000.

The SM-26 should work.  I would suggest cleaning the RJ-45 connection--both the female and male connections with DeOxit or Alcohol and trying again.  If it's actually a  *used* SM-26 (even though they told you it was new), I'd clean out all the dried spit on the front of the microphone element next.

I've successfully connected a variety of microphones using a homebrew 12AX7 microphone preamp.  Of course, ya gotta know pinouts and what type of microphone you're using.  A dynamic needs just about all the gain a 12AX7 can provide to drive my V8000 to normal deviation.

It is interesting that the Icom website shows it NOT compatible and the DX Engineering site says it IS compatible.  Someone's site is "dated".  Hope it works for you.

Just got an email from Icom tech. The SM-30 will work on the v8000
