New movie with Morse Code portrayed
« on: July 02, 2022, 04:51:30 PM »

The story of Virginia Hall and two other WW2 female spies is currently on Netflix: A Call to Spy.

The movie shows her training in Morse and the use of a Paraset. A more factual representation of her life can be found in the book "Wolves at the Door" but the movie is entertaining and will give more exposure to the role these courageous women played 80 years ago.

That is certainly a curious image, if I had seen that as younger person, I'd want to know more about what they are doing.

Funny you should post this. I just finished reading A Woman of No Importance: The Untold Story of the American Spy Who Helped Win World War II just a few weeks ago. Hall was originally sent to France by the British SOE but was so enormously successful that she became well known to the Nazi counterintelligence groups and had to flee. Wanting to return to France to finish her work she offered her services to the American Office of Strategic Services and it was there that she was taught to be a radio operator. She returned to France and worked until France was liberated. At the end of the war she was awarded the US Army Distinguished Service Cross and the French Croix de Guerre avec Palme.

Thanks for the tip on the Netflix show, I'll have to find that!

Certainly CW is central to the story, but due to its likely accuracy, very depressing. Now, 80+ years later, we have the same sort of atrocities going on in URA-UZZ.

The wife and I watched this movie last night. We thought it was a good movie. It wasn't all about CW and radios. That was just fine as the movie was interesting in itself.
