New Yaesu FT-710

Looks like knobs no longer clustered around main tuning like FTDX10
but surely there’s more than that !

Lets hope this one has a built in digital modem in it. (I am pretty sure it will), and hope they did something about the timer for the band and mode changes.  Two of my main complaints about the Ft891. The FT891 is a cool rig with some "nits", but this one is an opportunity to fix all of that plus add a real spectrum scope and waterfall.  I may need one in my truck and swap out the 891. I will be watching this closely.

Of Course, just when I'm getting used to my FTDX10, they obsolete it...I'll wait until I see tests of it. I also hope they've fixed the DVI to monitor connection where DVI to HDMI doesn't burn up the FTDX10 video card. More flexibility and averaging on the scope would be nice as well. As they say..."Wait for it"...

Um, I don't see it meant to compete or replace the FTDX10, I see it more of an upscale Ft891.. Lets see its spec's and price when all of that is announced.

The display style and size of the radio makes me think it is in competition with the Ic7300.
I bet the price point will probably be similar to the 7300, but thats just wishfull thinking.

Well, well, well...

I just purchased an FTDX10 last week, based on its receiver performance.  And it does indeed have a great receiver (and audio quality, too).  But the front panel could not be more crowded with little buttons crammed together and up against the VFO knob, not to mention various other nitpicks.  But I digress.

This new FT-710 looks very promising in terms of its control layout.  Ergonomically, it pushes my buttons!  Eagerly awaiting more intel reports.

And now the wait...

What I'd really like to see, is something along the lines of an FT-891 but will 2m and 70cm bands, all mode added.
Sort of like an updated FT-857D, but with the IF DSP.

This doesn't look like it does that, though.

A lot of what many people want can be done in firmware so there's no need to do an expensive redesign of the FTDX10 front panel and call it a new model.
So let's wait and see, after all we don't even know the size of '710, and I notice it's named FT-710 not FTDX710. .  . . .

German dealer Wimo quoting 839Euro + vat.
That’s less than $900USD.

Based on its size and coverage, looks like a replacement for the FT450D.  Should be popular if they can get it for sale for less than $900, and the tuner works better than the one in the FT991.

Yep, this is supposed to be an 7300 killer not a replacement for the FTDX10. If it is any good, they will sell a lot of them. They have never really had a rig to go head to head with the 7300. Now maybe they do. Time will tell.

"Remote Operation with Network Remote Control System" (it remains to be seen whether this means without an SCU-LAN10, like on the DX10 or 101). If no adapter is required, this could be interesting at a low price point.

Is this going to be a direct sampling radio, or a hybred design like the FTDX10, where roofing filters are still used?  Nothing from what I can see clearly suggests one or the other yet.

One item about the design of these radios, if one model is qrp and you have to haul it to a hill top, it seems to me that those knobs stick out too far,
it would be great if there was a cap cover dome to cover the controls. The tuning knob is tall as well as the knobs around it.

I remember the old Sencore oscilloscopes you could see that there was the ability to put a cover over the whole face of the scope
to protect it in transport.  I never saw a cover at anytime  btw.
