TikTok, the wildly popular short-video app owned by China’s ByteDance corporation, may be kicked out of Apple’s and Google’s download stores.

A US official boldly asserts that TikTok is “accessing users’ most sensitive data, including passwords, cryptocurrency wallet addresses, and personal messages.”

"Brendan Carr, a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), demanded TikTok’s removal two weeks ago in an open letter to both tech giants. He provides evidence that the program clearly violates “numerous provisions of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store” that prohibit Trojan horses and other violations of users’ security."

Recommends "Delete all TikTok content, remove your account, and uninstall the app"

There was a warning about Zoom a while ago. It is also a Chinese app and everything on there goes through Chinese servers.

It's a China owned app, what do you expect ? If Google and Facebook are collecting your information, what do you think the Chinese are doing ?

Never allow any app to store your userids and passwords on any computing device.

Never do banking on a device that does not have strong security software.

Always delete your browser cache and all temp files as soon as you do anything that required a userid, password, or other credentials, and always immediately before AND after any important activity like online banking.

Only do online banking with banks that require a second login verification, such as a passcode message sent to another phone or other secure device.

If you are sloppy and careless about these things, nobody will be able (or want) to help you recover.

No actual evidence has ever been presented.
The defense is "they all do it!"
Can you shut them all down?  Is it in the national interest?  Is it in the international interest?

Yes, probably in the (inter)national interest.  There were far fewer narcissistic, depressed, opioid-addicted, and self-injuring teens before social media came along.  IMHO social media is a key enabler and exacerbater of these endemics.

And I say that even though I earn a living in the wireless communications industry, which I feel is like working in an "electronic tobacco" industry.
