SCAM ALERT.....

Placed a WTB for a Icom 2KL.

He is try to do a SCAM through the call sign AB4TS

ROBERT T SCHRIBER
406 Summers Walk Cir
Garner, NC 27529

No email on QRZ.COM

Email: he is using roberthamab4ts@gmail.com

This person was claiming he was paralyzed on the left side, and this does not enable me to talk or hear properly but did text me from 984-983-7145.

Interestingly, this is a North Carolina area code, which is where AA4TS address on QRZ is; this shows some sophistication.

BEWARE OF ANY EMAILS THAT HAVE THE GUYS NAME CALL SIGN @ GMAIL.COM

ALWAYS WANT A PHONE NUMBER TO CONTACT THE PERSON, AND CALL HIM   >:( >:( >:(

Robert Schriber is a pastor in the area.  Not to mention, a published author.

Seems doubly wrong to try to impersonate a pastor to try to scam someone!

Phone numbers don't match up, either.

I used to have family in Garner.

Placed a WTB ad. Received email from the person claiming to be AB4TS. [ROBERT T SCHRIBER <roberthamab4ts@gmail.com>]

When asked how he wanted paid, he said only through PayPal Friends and Family.

First, I believe this is dishonest. (That's just my personal opinion!) I countered with offer to pay the PayPal fee. He said no... just PP F&F.

I walked away.

Careful...

I get the caution.   Paypal F/F isn't an immediate scam.   They are trying to avoid the IRS with the $600 limit going the other direction.   Pay taxes for selling used items...yeah I can see why people want to use F/F... it's not all about the 3%.      There's a fine line between caution and paranoia.  But like my 5th grade teacher told me when Lee Smith did something stupid the entire class got punished.   She said always remember that 2% will ruin it for the other 98%.  Wise words from 50 years ago...

There are no taxes to pay if you sell for less than you bought which is usually the case for used equipment.  I would never use FF as a seller or buyer and would insist on having PayPal protections for both the buyer and seller.

I've saying this since January when the reporting limits changed.

People seem to think that if you get reported as having $1000 in sales , that you owe tax on $1000.
You can have a $0 cost basis or a $10,000 cost basis.

It's just a reporting PITA not necessarily a TAX DUE issue.

We won't even know what the mess looks like until February 2023 when the 1099-K comes out.
