Jones Keys Manufacture date code info
« on: July 17, 2022, 08:53:11 AM »

Hello all,

I uncovered a Jones Keys single lever paddle key years ago in a soggy cardboard box, in an open pole barn, in north Texas.  I have it disassembled and am about to start a thorough cleaning.  Currently all movement is very sticky, greasy, and grimy; it appears as though it has spent years in a car repair garage.  I have no doubt it will clean up very nicely when done, all that shiny brass.

My question is about the Jones serial numbers and if it can give me a clue as to when this key was manufactured.  The serial number is either:

     200C57
         or
     200057

I'd love to hear from anyone that can enlighten me.

Thanks & 73,

Jones stopped making keys in 1998... so, sometime between 1992 to 1998?

I think, and admittedly I'm no Jones Key expert, that the 200 is the model, the letter C is likely the base color (or lack thereof) and the 57 is a sequential production number.  Not sure if there is any way to relate this to the specific year of manufacture.

Interesting question.  My Jones Key PK-200 was bought through Palomar Engineers in 1993 when they were importing them.  It has the red painted base and red finger pieces, all other parts are unpainted brass.

The serial number, clearly stamped in small numbers on the rear of the large brass pivot housing block is 000112.
