We ran two MP's in a multi single station back in the nineties, both with ICE band pass filtering plus coaxial stubs, never had an MP smoke but a buddy brought his 756 over and the front end smoked. The deal with Icom's were you had all that sensitivity plus extra noise were copy of weak stations next to strong ones is inhibited. Yes the top the sensitivity charts but you really don't need an MDS of 130db, more like 120 to 125 tops and less on the lower bands because of noise issues. There is such a thing as radio's being way over sensitive, yes the S meter reads higher but that is BS cause ultimately the copy of a signal is way more important then the S meter reading but since many hams today have graduated from CB that S meter reading is way to an important issue along with proper mic gain setting.
The early Yaesu's like the 1000D, MP, MP MKV,MP Field and the Icom 756 series all had either dual watch which was useful only on the same band or it the Yaesu the main RX controlled the band pass filters so trying to use the second RX on another band was almost useless cause the signals were highly attenuated. Todays two RX sections with two independent band pass filter networks are a quantum leap from radio's of yesteryear for more effective contest operating.
