JT Alert?
« on: July 21, 2022, 10:24:55 AM »

Has the JT Alert page been discontinued or moved? Been trying for several days and can't pull it up at https://hamapps.com/.

Have version 2.51.3, but need to keep it updated, especially with LoTW users.

I hadn't Googled, I Duck Duck Went. Tried Googling and found the link for Ver 2.51.5. Clicked on it and nada. Added an exception to my virus protection, and still nothing. Tried disabling Windows Firewall, and still can't pull up the site. This is strange, but there's bound to be an explanation.

Go to the search box and type in cmd

then click on the cmd that it finds.  This should bring up the old black DOS window

Then ping hamapps.com

The ping should hit the ip address of hamapps.com  4 times.
If your DNS is working.  Try pinging other names like coke.com or yahoo.com

That gave the IP address (108.160.156.103) but timed out with all 4 pings.

Was just reading the discussions on the subject at HamApps.groups.io. Some on Spectrum (My ISP) were blocked. They were in the 35.139 IP range, I'm in the 35.129 range, but my ISP being blocked seems to be the problem.

Some were suggesting the Brave browser. I'll download and try it on one of my machines. If that doesn't work, and I don't get any other solutions, I'll pull up HamApps at a friends house and bring the updates home with me on a thumb drive.

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe sign up and try Atlas VPN.  It is what the russians do to get around all the blocks.   Yes since the IP address resolved, the DNS is working, but you were blocked downstream somewhere. That sucks.

Atlas VPN wants money, and don't know if it will solve anything. The Brave browser is said to have it's own VPN, but I'm still blocked from HamApps while using it. But I like the Brave browser, I can visit sites that don't like my ad blocker when using Firefox, Chrome, or Edge. I've been using Dissenter to go to the Fox News site. Brave will also allow me to visit the site.

Laurie, VK3AMA, has been having problems with malicious activity from my IP range. This is from May & June, and the problem is apparently still persisting. These are a few excerpts that he wrote...

"Over many days and from several different addresses in the 35.139.x.x range there was bot activity probing HamSpots generating thousands of 404 html responses in a very short period of time, It was clear there was an attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site.

I have removed the block, so you should now have access again. But if the site probing continues I will be shutting down access from that IP address range again.

Zero response from your ISP.

I removed the firewall block of your ISP IP blocks 34.0.0.0/8 and 35.0.0.0/8. Within 15 minutes of the blocks being lifted the malicious activity resumed. Unfortunately blocking individual IPs as they are detected is not a solution. The abuser changes IP address with each attack."

Download the portable version of Opera and activate the built-in "VPN". It's free and should work.

https://www.opera.com/computer/portable

Why portable? So that it does not touch your registry. It also does not leave residues behind. To remove it, simply delete the folder. This is my preferred method for every software, if it has a portable version, that is the one I install.

Opera is what I use on another site that has my IP blocked. While my IP is dynamic it has never changed. I have no idea what the previous user of the IP did. I have been blocked since switching to my current ISP. Never had a problem accessing the site with the previous ISP.

Yes, I could have contacted the site, but it's not that important, so I don't care. Just load Opera if/when needed.

You be da man Vince, it worked. Couldn't turn the VPN on with the Brave browser because you gotta purchase it separately for 10 bucks a month or 100 a year. The free one on Opera worked fine. Had to go through a couple of reCaptchas with bicycles and buses, and got an IP in either Jamaica or South Korea, doesn't matter. I just wanted the updates. I'm good to go with Runtime 6, JT Alert 2.51.5, Latest Call Database, and WSJT-X 2.6.0. Thanks for the help.
