RTL.SDR device found at estate sale---what is it?
« on: July 25, 2022, 09:56:21 AM »

I found a small device at an estate sale that doesn't appear to have even been used or removed from original packaging.  In looking at the SDR.RTL website, there aren't any of their products that look like the one I have. I couldn't figure out how to attach a photo of the item to this post. It measures 3.25" X  2" X .5", has a small connector on one end labeled "USB", not the normal USB connection and on the other end there's 2 SMA connectors, one labeled "UV" and the other "HF".  Any help in identifying it and how to connect it would truly be appreciated.

Send me the photo and I will post it for you.   I have wrote how to post pictures so many times on this forum, I am just not going to do that anymore, and received an admonishment from one that inquired,  but I would be happy to post your photo for you.

The UV connector is for a VHF/UHF antenna, and the HF is for 30mhz and below.

The basic receiver does not have frequency coverage below about 26mhz, and so an upconverter is included so as to allow HF coverage. That is why (2) antenna connectors.

The USB connector could be what is called a Mini-USB. If so then it is a simple matter to find a suitable cable for connection to your PC.

I have one, I have never worked out how to use the verious tools (SRDplay, SDRAnged, HDSDR, etc) to use the HF.  Is is as simple as switching to direct sampling or something else?
