PayPal Invoice Scams Aren’t Going Away: Here’s How to Avoid Them

"Scammers are always looking for new ways to steal your personal details or money, and over the past few months, an exploit in PayPal’s invoice system is being used to create convincing phishing messages.

PayPal isn’t alone, either — the popular money transfer service Zelle is also a frequent target for scammers."

Let's be careful out there.

These days only a fool would fall for such a scam. First of all, you ignore and delete the email or text. Then log in your real Paypal account where you should have secured by a strong password and two factor login and you will notice that no one has taken any money from you. You become your worst enemy when you fall for such cheap tricks. Never open a link sent to you either via email, photograph, text via computer, cell phone or social media. Hackers will not waster their time hacking your computer or phone when they can just sent you a message that they think you will fall for and click on it. Also, never answer your phone if the number is not on your contact list. If someone calls you and really wants to talk to you thy will leave a message.

Would love to read the article but I won't click on the link.   Maybe a cut and paste of the text would be better in this case.    :D

By now, most people should be on to these tactics. These scams have been around for many many years. It took a long time to convince my XYL to never click on anything in her email. She would have been an easy mark.

Yea, I have the same issue with "HowToGeek". They don't let you see anything unless you disable your ad blocker. So I never bother with links for their web site. They don't have any information that I can't find somewhere else. They are just not that important to me. They are one of the few web sites that use that tactic.

I avoid all that BS the easy way, I just don’t use PayPal, never, never, never.

That is the way I handle it.

nothing wrong with using Paypal as long as you use your own credit card for purchases... for selling ham gear i only do face to face at hamfests and preferably to folks in the local club... i have sold a couple rigs here on eham, but what i do is send the rig to the ham first and if he likes it, he can write me a check in return... money is not that important to me, but my rep is

grrr  I got ripped again...

I saw a Chinese Radio at an amazing price (a known Xiegu) and despite me not buying this stuff the price was low low. From Ebay I evolved into a 'by haste' method of operation. Got to jump fast.

I got suspicious over something minor and started snooping. This seller pops up here and there and vanishes again. Totally fake websites. All looks totally real. Totally real. Payment is directed to PayPal. I am protected..right ?

I filed disputes with PayPal. I got numerous replies rejecting my problems. Then my PayPal account was suspended.

I contacted my bank and they refunded my money. (funds came from my bank via PayPal) Oddly after that PayPal pops up and says my claim was legit and returns my account.

In years my second get ripped with PayPal and both times they froze my account until I could complain no more and ignored complaints. None of this 'friends and family' if that exists anymore.

Maybe others have PayPal luck but mine is at zero as to any protection.

Excuse if off-topic. Start a new thread ? Was about PayPal.
