Kenwood software for programming the TM-V7A
« on: August 03, 2022, 06:54:09 PM »

Please excuse this old man for not plowing though hours of "posts" to look for the answer to my question.   :-\

I'd like to know if the Kenwood TM-V7A programming software will operate on the newer versions of Windows?  (Windows 7 Pro, Windows 10, etc.)

I successfully used this software with Windows XP many years ago but I recently tried it with Windows 7 Pro and it choked.

Have you tried Chirp as an alternative?  I had previously owned a TM-V7A and was able to program it using Chirp.

RUL:  No, never tried chirp.  Use it for my Baofeng though.  The Kenwood program is much more intuitive....easier to use.

The KRS-V7A from RT Systems is the only program other than Chirp I know of that will work. Kenwood no longer offers software for that radio. If you still have the original software try it on Win 10 under the compatibility manager in Settings.

RKY:  Thank you for your reply.  I researched and found RT Systems and ordered KRS-V7A kit.

RT Systems still sell the cable and software but they no longer "support" the software... :-\

I downloaded the  MCP-7 programming software for the TM-7A fom https://www.kenwood.com/usa/Support/Amateur_Radio/ .
It does start up on my W10 machine but I don't have a radio to try to program.

QEX:  Your info has been filed.  TY.  The next problem comes with finding a workable interface cable for this now obsolete radio.

Interface cable here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/153886012416  by KJ6ZWL

The radio side of the connector look like the ones that were used for the mouse and keyboard on PCs

QEX:  Thank you for the link.  I bought a cable a long time ago that used the (at that time) the Prolific chip set. Seems I recall that was the only chip set that would work.  I have since lost that cable which is just as well.  I had to use a USB to DB9 adaptor and fabricate a cable to integrate the the TM-V7A to this mess.  The RT Systems KRS-V7A cable and software takes care of all this plus the software is incredible user friendly.

Thank you OM.
