144.900 mhz - overseas net heard in UK ?
« on: August 04, 2022, 12:04:18 PM »

This afternoon I've been hearing a net on 144.900 mhz FM here in South Eest UK with North American accents and call signs. Though I think one station was an M1 prefix so I think he was UK based.

I've been away from the 2m band for a long time so I am not up to date on latest developments there. Is this some sort of FM/Internet hybrid net...or very very unusual propagation !?

Most probably an Echolink or WIRES node nearby. You're hearing the "radio" portion of it.

144.9 is probably MB7IBX simplex gateway located in Bexhill. Most likely linked to Hubnet or similar.
