Seriously considering this rig. Need help being talked into or out of the purchase
I have an older alinco and a ht yaesu both which I've used on the road.
Things I like
I really like separate banks on the yaesu. I often go on 400+ mile trips where before the trip, on a pc, I plug into a bank the repeaters along the way, in order of travel.
I also like the wide receiver range where i can access us forest service (i volunteer a lot for the fs), nearby search /rescue , and when in logging country, murs, and for ham public service events. I dedicate different banks to different regional jobs.
I like the alinco user Interface, and am at the point. I'd like to standardize my knowledge on one vendor's user design, my memory isn't so great any longer.
I also want a detachable face, that can be easier to see and adjust, when on the road. - closer to me,
When driving I like dials for changing channels, not buttons.
Detachable face makes it easier to hide, if I'm in a theft prone area, which I'm usually not.
I like lots of memories, to store many diff projects.
Most reviews are pretty positive, I know the major brands are reliable. But what things drive you crazy when on the road?
The 350$ range is attractive e, there is a big price jump after that.
I'd prefer to leave the unit mounted in the car - how to reprogram? Take a laptop out to the car to attach?
Any tips on mounting the head unit or mic?
THANKS & 73!
