Spots vs correct mode
« on: August 20, 2022, 12:04:18 PM »

Bit of a gripe.  Why in the heck when I have spots filtered to show HF phone spots do so many FT8 spots show up with often no notation that they are FT8.  The choices are phone, CW, and digi.  Is FT8 not a digi mode?  Would it kill folks to pick the correct mode?  Or do they truly not know what they do?

Sounds like a POTA gripe?  Just guessing.   I see it on POTA.  FT8, CW...listed as an HF spot... My three guesses would be they are trying to get more visibility by spotting HF.   OR the people that spot them don't understand the mode.   Or they just completely don't know.   Every day I'm amazed at the intelligence level of people that supposedly have to pass a test or two to get into a hobby.

POTA is for contesters that are too stupid to be in a real contest.   No one ever said the truth might not be painful.

You can filter cluster spots at both the cluster itself and with your log program.

For example, Log4OM has a “tick box” for digital and another to ignore FT8.

There's often nothing in the spot to filter against.  Maybe the frequency?

I have nothing against POTA, I take a portable setup wen I go camping, if it's a POTA park, so much the better.
