Yaesu FTM 3100R/E desk microphone?
« on: August 22, 2022, 10:39:51 AM »

Does anyone know what desk mic would work on this radio. It says the mic impedance is 2k. I have been searching on Yaesu and other places but no info?

Is the connector 4 pin, 8 pin or modular?  If 8 pin most any 8 pin Yaesu mic will work.

Just got a reply from Yaesu tech. YAESU does not have a desk mic that will work on this radio due to the 2k impedance. Nor will any other pre amp mic on the market work.

There is no "plug&play".
This radio uses the mh48a6ja mic.  It uses a 2000 ohm electret element and a 6 (six) pin RJ connector 6p6c.  Other desk mics can be made to work, but you need to make a adapter cable.
are you still interested?

I use a Heil headset with a 600 ohm impedance on a Yaesu FTM-100 with the same 2K impedance with no adverse results. I've also used it on other Yaesu radios with the same 2kΩ impedance with no issues. The only time I had any reports of low audio was when I tried a Yaesu MD-100 desk microphone (500Ω impedance) on an FTM0350AR. I didn't play with the mic gain settings at the time. That is something I'm going to have to revisit.
