Antenna for 2019 F150 aluminum body
« on: August 24, 2022, 07:27:10 AM »

I wish Ford had stayed with a steel body. I have a mag mount antenna for my 2 meter radio and that will not work. I hate to drill a hole in the body. Any ideas on antenna mounting with out drilling?

google "larson electronics" it's a "no drill magnet antenna mount" . To install you take off the third brake light, put this mount behind the third brake light, and re-install the third brake light. It's pricey, about 200 bucks but looking at it might give you a diy idea.

Yep; that brake light mount is the way to go---if I didn't garage my F150 I would have gone that route pronto!

I ended up installing a big alu toolbox and mounted my 2m whip atop that (along with my fold-over screwdriver for HF).

Don't forget the pre made fender mounts which are specific to model and year. In conjuction with a good Larson NMO and antenna of your choice (I use the Larson NMO 2/70 on my 2010 Chevrolet) can be a good quick and dirty way to go without drilling holes in the truck. They mount under existing vehicle bolts.

search for no hole fender mount on DX engineering website.

Well, there are a lot of glass mount and lip mount possibilities here, but I say "drill the hole... it's a TRUCK"!
Nobody is going to question a good old ball mount on a pickup truck!

Give the Diamond K-400 lip mount some consideration.

Also, drop by Harbor Freight (The Men's Boutique') and look at the Glaser suction cups.  For the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, we came up with a magmount plate mounted on to a double suction cup.  Ford provides our logistics vehicles, the non-magnetic F-150.  The first year, we didn't know this and coming up with a solution at 4:30 AM was challenging; duct tape came to the rescue.

Get a diamond hrks mount.
Put it on the rear window.
Place the cable between the glass and the body
Run the sma connector through the air vent.
Oh, buy off Amazon the loop gizmo to release the seat back.
Buy a Comet 40’ dual band antenna.
No holes and works super on my 2018 F150.

Stake mount?  If they still put those in the bed of the truck. No idea really since I don't play with antennas on my truck.   Don't need to listen to "short time no traffic" all day but I digress.   The stake mount is the first thing that popped into mind.  I'm sure Google can finish my thought.

It's a 3 year old truck, if you want it to work correctly, drill a hole for a MNO mount. Next get a metal cap/cover for the mount, using a can of touch up spray paint, paint it. No ones going to look up there, especially if it's a 4X4. No matter what route you go, get a mount without the connector attached, it will make it a lot easier to run.

BTW...I have drilled a hole in every F-150 I have ever owned going back to the 80's. Including the 2020 that I got just before things went nuts on car pricing. Not one dealer has ever said anything or even noticed the antenna mount. If they do, walk away, if they want to sell you a truck, they won't care. I trade them in every 4 years, except maybe this one.

Something like this mount for 2017 - 2020 F150s.

Or this one.

And another one.

For maximum performance, center of the roof is preferred, and
I'd also recommend drilling a hole and installing an NMO mount
in that case.

But in many situations the fender mount is adequate.

I use one similar to those suggested by WB6BYU on my 2018 F-150.

Works fine.

I use a Larson cab light mount.
Alum with a steel plate bolted to it.
Run 2m FM HT driving a 35-watt amplifier and use a hand mike.
I use rubber surface mount cable guides glued to the back window in the Blacked-out edge area, dropping down between the cab and the box then up through the floor to the radio.
Yes, the cable might look unusual, but you would get used to it as a clever way to do it.
Good luck.
