Icom IC-V8 handheld problem
« on: August 25, 2022, 02:50:55 PM »

I have an old Icom IC-V8 2 meter handheld. It has been a workhorse for years but it now will not respond to programing new frequencies, memory channels or tone frequencies. Someone said the memory battery on the board may be dead and could possibly cause it. The battery is probably gone due to the age of the rig. Any suggestions and would it be worth it to repair.

Do you program with the keys or with software?
If you use software try a factory reset and see if you manage to program.

If you are using the keypad there might be some issues with the keys or the flex going to the keypad. You might try to open up the radio and see if the flex have come loose or are broken.

This is a pretty old radio 12-15 years and a lowend product so its probably not worth putting a lot in to the repair.
