Translated by google translate:

"user since 2001 of an 870, I am not licensed, I use it on 27 mhz and most of the time in swl on 80m and 40m, I have tested many transmitters in my life, yaesu ft one , 102/980, 1000d, mark5, mark field icom 775 dsp 756 pro3, kenwood ts 450 850 and 950 sdx, the ts-870 is in my eyes exceptionally cheap to buy and largely as effective as the transmitters mentioned. it's not the best but it will stay in my swl heart and it won't leave my qra 73"

I guess it makes a good CB radio too.

Before everyone goes nuts over this,  please be aware that in much of the world other than the U.S.  27MHz is legal to operate in this manner... and that it appears this operator is not in the U.S.

True. And it really doesn't matter even if it were being used in this manner in the USA because 27mhz here is totally unenforceable. The FCC gave up on it years ago except for an occasional fine.....

It's not a CEPT PR 27 CB radio, therefor it is illegal to use on 27MHz band.

CB 27/81 - The original legal "stamp" - CB on 27Mhz, made legal in 1981. Rigs with this mark are legal to use in the UK but not in continental Europe. (Sometimes refered to as MPT1320, but the circle CB 27/81 is what you will see.)

Why is type of review even allowed on a website that's suppose to represent the Amateur Radio Service which is bound by national (FCC, OFCOM, etc) and international laws (ITU).

Nothing is sacred anymore. No honer. Let's rationalize everything away.

That review was a positive review of the Kenwood TS-870S, which is what the eHam Reviews are for.     Why do some people get their feathers all ruffled just because the operator isn't a ham ?   Heck,  he isn't even in this country and isn't subject to any US laws.    Sheesh.

Sounds to me like he's owned quite a few top end and upper end ham transceivers.  So I would tend to value his opinion.

The Alpha Tango group has been around for decades.  I remember hearing them in the 89s with a Gen coverage rx.  They do dxpeditions and other things to advance their hobby.

Quite a few of the freebanders are also ticketed hams.

But just whining because a freebanders gave a review, and was able to compare the rig to other high end ham rigs, is just lame.

I remember a time when people didn't like something, they just kept going.

I've learned opinions are like armpits.  Everyone has them, and most just stink.

Take a listen on 27.555 usb sometime and listen to some of the conversations. Some of the things they talk about are much better sounding than things I hear on 80 and 40 and some other ham areas. Also a bit more civilized there also.

I hear some stations on ssb on the cb band, and I don't stay on too long. I hear stations say a few introductory phrases and then the say good bye,
hello, good bye, what use is that?, why bother to have a radio if all you can say is waving a hand.
I haven't tuned in to triple nickels though.
I took a trip up thru part of california, there where latin stations here and up there, 27.6

Yet, "You're 5/9 1436" is perfectly ok.

I get your point.

Leave 27.555 and you will find some ops that are pretty technical.  When I was an avid freebander 30 years ago, we had a group called the "Sattelite Network".  It was a group of technicians that shared their technical abilities with the rest of the technicians.

It was started by a gentleman in Venezuela.  I heard he died about 20 years ago.  An American expat.  There was also a guy whom was the secretary in Florida (I met him when I was living there) that kept a running library of every document shared.  All free for anyone that wanted them for the price of the paper and a stamp.

There are technical guys out there.  FT8, SSTV, WSPR, etc are all being used by 11 meter ops, especially in the freeband.

Being in the Caribbean now, I hear quite a lot of them when I spin the dial from 12 to 10 meters.

Why don't you cancel your license and start the Freebanders of America Association. You can be their founding father and representative on the plight of the poor freebander.
