Being heard in Australia, Hawaii, Artic Circle and Antarctica. Don't believe much power, if any, is being wasted.

I understand the theory of proper matching. However, in an attempt to perfect our setup, we never actually get on the air?

Reminds me of meeting an older, quite successful, ham. Probably broke every “rule” I ever read.

In other words. Do it. If it doesn’t successfully work, then tweak. Don’t let striving for perfection prevent one from doing.

 :D :D :D you got that right.
Back when i was into setting up " good antennas" for cb, i got quite a surprise when an old fellow strung up 2 aluminum lawn chairs and tied his coax to it.
His swr was 1.2 to 1 and he was making good contacts.

Just goes to show ya expect the unexpected because possibilities are endless.

So true...

Similar to using a gutter as an antenna.

Or, read stories about life in communist countries. Amazing what the folks did to hear the truth. Water pipes (which I never understood, unless in communist countries a cold water pipe wasn't used as a ground), screens, window frames, etc. A friend of mine, whom grew up in the USSR, would travel into the country to hear VOA and BBC (to avoid city jamming).
