IC-703 plus question
« on: September 02, 2022, 07:31:37 PM »

I just received a new-to-me IC-703+.  I notice that when using the shift control that I have to move the received passband above the center frequency to get normal sounding audio.  This is particularly noticeable in the CW mode.  If I center the passband on the center frequency marker using the graph on the display, the audio is significantly attenuated, both signals and band background noise.  The manual suggests centering the passband when no interference is present, but this isn't possible.

The radio has an Inrad SSB filter with a passband of 2.1 kHz.  The effect is noticeable with the filter switched in or out.

The radio has the DSP option, UT-106.

RIT is off.

The operation of shift function should be identical to the IC-706, if there's any 706 users out there that can offer suggestions.

I've tried a factory reset. (Lock + On)

I'm betting this is a setting that I'm missing somewhere.  Hoping it's not an alignment problem.

TIA for suggestions.

Hi Glenn.  I was using the wrong key combo for the reset.  Lock + On just accesses the menu.  The correct key combo for reset is the up and down band arrows  + On.  The reset took care of the problem.  It's still a mystery what was set incorrectly, but the reset cleared it.  Probably the same problem as Voyager.  High-speed energetic particles striking the CPU causing subtle but unwanted reprogramming.  ;)

I run one of these on a motorcycle. High speed upper HF and 6M mobile is fun. Can also use the setup at a campsite while parked.
