WAE QTC. Someone please explain.
« on: September 10, 2022, 08:30:24 PM »

Every time I work this contest, I hear the EU stations asking “do you have QTC?” What exactly do they want? When listening to other stations asked this, they seem to provide a long list of their last 10-20 qsos in the contest. Am I correct with this observation? Someone verify, b/c I just don’t get it.

I was curious, so I looked at their rules.  Its a way to get more points, see explanation here.

That is exactly what QTC is. A way to get another quick 10 qsos. If asked you can send the time and call of the last (up to) 10 stations you worked and each of you get credit. You can only send a qso once and there is a limit of one set of 10 to a station. As an example if you have 100 qsos, you have a potential of 10 sets of QTC.

Note that QTCs can only be sent to European stations.   Stations outside EU cannot receive QTCs.

Two points:

  • In the RTTY WAE (only), non-EU stations can send QTCs
  • In the CW WAE, most ops are using contest software to send QTCs, which makes it real easy. The EU ops use the same software to log QTCs, but they have to accurately copy the call/time/QSO number - impressive

Which logging programs best handle QTC?  I have never bothered with that in the WAE because I don't know how to deal with them in the logging program.

Which logging programs best handle QTC?

Below is a list a few.  I use N1MM.

Larry, K8UT, made a video about the using N1MM and the WAE RTTY version of the contest. He also discusses how send/receive QTCs working in general.

As NB3R says, N1MM sends QTCs for you. It couldn't be easier for you and it's the European station that does the work. When the European station requests QTCs N1MM sends them one at a time. When he/she sends R after correctly copying a QTC you send the next until your QTCs (up to 10 total) have been sent and received. It's such an easy way to pump up your score. I have to admit I had to take 45 minutes out of the contest to figure it.

You may want to read the rules again for RTTY.

12 Special Rules for RTTY
In the RTTY portion of the WAEDC there are no continental limits; everybody can work everybody. Only QTC traffic must be performed between different continents.
Every station may send and receive QTCs. The sum of QTCs exchanged between two stations (sent plus received) must not exceed 10 (ten).

So US stations can receive and send QTC's.
